She tried hard to turn the switch off but couldn’t seem to be successful! She watched the sun go down from her window and she knew that it was soon going to be the Sabbath, which gave her the urge to turn the switch off even more! Out of the blue, it struck her! She immediately realized that this struggle was inside her head and so was the switch! It was not a physical switch staring at her from the side of her wall, but a tiny little switch inside her head that audaciously refused to turn off!
She thought to herself, “Why aren’t you listening to me!? Aren’t you supposed to be under my control?” She tried harder to negotiate with her brain to turn off the switch of worldliness and enter into a state of calmness and serenity because it was the day of ‘Rest’. Pretty soon she realized that all her effort was pointless and that got her thinking about things that she hadn’t considered before.
Before long, she had gone from battling the switch issue to thinking hard on how the brain works. She realized that it’s not just a physical thing but also very much a spiritual thing! She sank into her couch, wondering about the things she had been doing since morning that day. She panned through the things she had read, watched and experienced through the day and it suddenly occurred to her! All day, or probably most parts of the week go by, she had been doing things that brought her worldly pleasure, things that her carnal flesh craved for, and didn’t feel the need to turn off that switch except for a couple of times here and there. She had been living like anyone else and now suddenly she wanted to be a different person! Now, she wanted to switch the button off and turn into a saintly Christian girl who keeps the Sabbath and spends quality time with her Lord.
Now, as she followed her pacing mind, watching this theory make way into her senses, she had a moment of realization, followed by a moment of conviction. It made so much sense that she thought she could write a book on it! Before she could fly into the ocean of her wild imaginations, she got herself together and wrote a small article about it! And that’s what this is!
It is a lie if we think we can live like the next guy in this world and on the Sabbath, suddenly transform into a different version of ourselves. It is a lie if we think that there is a big power button in our heads that obey us like a well brought up child and will go off when we command it to. It is a lie if we think that we can fool the world and God by using the switch method.
Let’s face it, what we do all week is what we are as a person in reality and that’s what we’ll continue to be on Day 7 as well! So let’s be careful what we choose to think, say or even do through the first six days, so that we don’t try our luck on getting the switch to listen to us on the seventh day!
